El 10 de agosto de 1628, el mismo día de su botadura, el Vasa, la nave de guerra más poderosa de su tiempo, se hundió en el puerto de Estocolmo ante los atónitos ojos del rey de Suecia y de numeroso público. Para hacerla más temible, el rey ordenó la construcción de una batería más alta de cañones. Un fuerte golpe de viento desplazó la carga mal atada a un lado, haciéndolo zozobrar y entrando agua por las troneras. Esto provocó su hundimiento. Dos años de construcción , la taladura de mil robles y decenas de vidas humanas se fueron al traste en un instante.

En 1956 se produjo su descubrimiento, reflotado en 1961, desde 1990 alberga el museo del mismo nombre, el más visitado de Escandinavia.

Se encuentra entre el Museo Nórdico y el Puerto de Estocolmo y contiene el barco, así como restos humanos, reconstrucciones artísticas de sus rostros y efectos materiales y personales.

The 10th of August in 1628, the same day of its launching, the Vasa, the most fearsome war ship of its age, sank in Stockholm Harbour, before the king of Sweden and numerous public´s eyes.

To be more dreadful, the king ordered

the construction of a higher battery of guns. A violent gust displaced the untied load to one side of the ship, making it shipwreck, entering water through the portholes, thus provoking its sinking.
Its building took 2 years, a thousand oaks were cut and tens of lives were to the depths suddenly.

Its discovery was in 1956, refloated in 1961 and since 1990 hosts the homonimous museum, the most visited in Scandinavia.


The Vasa Museum lies between Stockolm Harbour and The Nordic museum and contains the ship, human remainders and artistic reconstructions of its faces and also material and personal effects.
