La iglesia de Santa Sofía, hoy museo, fue terminada en 537, bajo el reinado del emperador bizantino Justiniano. En 1750 sus mosaicos fueron recubiertos de estuco y en 1934 se eliminó este yeso por orden del presidente de la República, Ataturk, para convertirlo en museo. Fue durante casi mil años la mayor iglesia del mundo.Saint Sophia Church, today a museum, was completed in 537 under the reign of the emperor Justinian. In 1750 its mosaics were plastered by stucco and in 1934 was removed this stucco by order of the President of the Republic, Ataturk, to be a museum. It was during almost a millenium the biggest church in the world.
