In 1748 was created the Maritime Province of Segura under the reign of Ferdinand VI. These vast forests were among the main places that for centuries supplied the once powerful Spanish fleet to maintain the Empire. The impregnable fortress which today stands proud in Segura de la Sierra give the name of a river and a mountain range and is a part of the name of towns like Beas, Horn, Chiclana, La Puerta (all of them... de Segura). In earlier times these lands were held on the border between Muslims and Christians, a remote and rugged territory, a terrain impossible, dangerous even without the hand of man. The hardness of the mountain leaves everything in its place. The Sierra de Segura takes more than two-thirds of the largest protected natural area of Spain.

It´s surprising that the place in the world where there are more olive trees, the more abundant is ...the pine tree.
