Vereda de la Estrella, Granada / La Estrella Pathway, Granada, Spain

Una exquisita excursión por su belleza en la misma falda de Sierra Nevada es la de la Vereda de la Estrella, que transcurre entre 1200 y 1500 m. de altitud y va desde la confluencia del río San Juan con el Genil hasta las minas de la Probadora y la Estrella, donde en los siglos XIX y gran parte del XX se extrajeron minerales de hierro, que a lomos de mulo se transportaron en unas condiciones muy duras hasta el puerto de Almería atravesando todo el macizo de Sierra Nevada, a veces a altitudes muy superiores a los 3000 m. De épocas pasadas nos queda el toponímico Cuesta de los Presidiarios, los cuales hacían esta durísima ruta hasta Vacares , uno de los tresmiles de la Sierra. En la actualidad esta ruta está muy concurrida por ciclistas y excursionistas y es un agradable paseo que lleva una mañana completa entre robles, encinas y castaños, como el centenario El Abuelo,que nos espera a una hora del comienzo. Recomiendo esta ruta para cualquier época del año por su climatología y porque es de los pocos lugares donde en la misma foto salen los 3 picos más altos de la Sierra,la poderosa Alcazaba (3366 m), el Mulhacén (3481 m, el más alto de la Península) y el Veleta (3398 m.). An exquisite trip for its beauty on the same slope of Sierra Nevada is that of La Estrella (the Star Pathway), which runs between 1200 and 1500 m. altitude, going from the confluence of San Juan Gorge with the Genil River to the mines of La Probadora and la Estrella (the Tester and the Star mines), where in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were largely extracted iron ores, mule riding that were transported in conditions very hard to the port of Almeria through the whole massif of Sierra Nevada, often at altitudes well above 3000 m. In the past we have the slope of Inmates toponymic, which made this very hard path to Vacares, one of the three  thousands meter peaks of this range. Today this route is very popular with cyclists and walkers and is a pleasant walk that takes a full morning between oak and chestnut trees, as the centenary Grandpa, that is awaiting us about an hour from the start. I recommend this route for any time of year for weather and because is one of the few places we can get in the same picture the 3 highest peaks of the Sierra, the mighty Alcazaba (the Citadel, 3366 m), Mulhacén (3481 m, the highest in the Peninsula) and Veleta (3398 m.).
